The War of the Roses

The Rivalry The battle between the House of Lancaster  and the House of York was a long war that lasted from 1455 to 1485. The ruling groups fought over the crown of England. It was called the war of the Roses because the House of Lancaster uses a red rose in their coat of arms, while the House of York uses a white rose in their royal emblem. 1455; The Start of the War During this time the House of Lancaster is reigning England. Henry VI was crowned king during this time. Henry VI suffered from catatonic schizophrenia. The House of York saw an opportunity to their weak king and attacked. The Battle of St. Albans happened with the House of York gaining victory over the House of Lancaster. Although the House of York didn't get their duke crowned as king they still gave him a rather high position; the "Lord Protector". He had lots of power and technically replaced the king when he's having an episode from his mental illness. Queen Margaret revolted because she wa

Bartolomeu Dias and Vasco de Gama

The Vast Ocean In ancient times people thought different of the ocean. During these times they thought of boiling waters and man-eating sea monsters that were enough to terrify curios explorers. To top it all off they still thought the earth was flat so they thought they could fall off earth! Why do they need to explore the ocean? Well it's to find a new trade route from the west to the east. For 12 years this people have been trying to go around Africa but the fear of being burned alive in the equator has kept sailors from getting to their destination. Two explorers however were brave enough to sail the mysterious seas. Bartolomeu Dias and the Cape of Good Hope Bartolomeu Dias from Portugal was assigned in the 15th expedition. He passed the place where sailors returned back in fear. He didn't see any sea monsters and whirlpools nor did the equator burn them alive. A big storm however tossed them around and they landed on the southern tip of Africa. Dias wanted to keep go

Fungi

Fungi, from the mushrooms you eat to yeast on your bread. Fungi can be really deadly but they are also really helpful. Let's understand about fungi. Fungi have mycelium which is in charge of extracellular digestion. Each strand of mycelium could be called hyphae. Hyphae could reproduce sexually which I will be telling about later. Fungi could cause diseases such as athlete's foot and be poisonus. Fungi can be deadly if you inhale their spores or if you eat a poisonus species of fungi. Fungi can reproduce both sexually and asexually, either way makes spores. Fungi could reproduce asexally using a process called budding. Parts of hyphae could grow into new fungi. Sexual reproduction in fungi is differnt in other organisms. If  hyphae are near each other the could reproduce sexually. Fungi are decomposer which means they eat deceased organisms. They release toxins that break down the food, so that the nutrients will be released. This is really helpful as without fungi ther

Classification of Stars

There are billions and billions of stars in our universe, we can't even count them. Classifying stars is a really helpful when identifying stars. Spectral Letters Spectral letters identify the tempreature of stars. M being the coolest stars and O being the hottest stars. Our sun's tempreatue is 10,000 degrees farenheit. Which means our star is a type G star. Below is a table for the spectral letters. Absolute and Apparent Magnitude Another way to classify stars is through it's brightness. Absolute magnitude is the brightness of a star the lower the number the brighter the star is. Although the sun might look very bright it is only because we're so close to it. The sun's magnitude is 5. Apparent magnitude on the other hand is how bright it is in the sky. H-R Diagram The Hertzsprung-Russel Diagram or H-R diagram is a graph of both the spectral letters and absolute magnitude. below is an H-R Diagram Source:Wikipedia

Federalism vs Unitary

Federalism vs Unitary Federations and unitary states are different types of states. What's the difference? Federations Federations have federalism which is obvious enough. So what happens in federalism. It is when the central nor the regional governments are supreme. The central government has control of some laws and the regional government is in control some other laws. One example of a federalism state is America. Unitary  Unitary states are much different from federations. Instead of the regional and the central government having the same power the central government is supreme. The central government does most of the laws while the regional governments only does few laws.

Robin Hood

Robin hood is remembered as that one archer who steals from the rich to give to the poor. Although people think he is a fictional character there is proof that he really exists. In england a tombstone says: Here underneath this little stone Lies Robert, Earl of Huntingdon Ne'er archer was as he so good And people call him Robin Hood Such outlaws as he and his men Will england never see again.                        1247 There are lots of information we get from this tombstone. For example it states that his real name isis Robert and was nicknamed Robin Hood. It also says he was a good archer and was an outlaw. Although stories suggest him stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, we don't have proof if he really does.
